According to the legends, this pagoda is about 2500 years old, therefore making it the oldest pagoda in Myanmar.  Also, the legends believe that 2 brothers from Yangon (traditionally known as Okkalapa who lived about 2,500 years visited Buddha in India. Buddha gave them 8 of his hairs and told them to enshrine them in Yangon. They gave those hairs to their kind who started to search for a spot where he could enshrine them. After searching for many years but in vain Sularata one of the Nat spirits decided to assist him. It was the same spot identified by this spirit where this pagoda was built.
Once you visit this pagoda you will be able to see 4 entrances to this complex which are guarded by huge chinthes (Burmese mythological lions) which have a white body and their heads are gold-colored. The upper part of this walls of this complex is decorated with beautiful Myanmar styles which implies the previous stories of Buddha and Jataka tales.
